review and anti-recommendation for Dr DivX

Just a quick warning about the product, or more accurately the company behind the product Dr DivX. DivX, as many of you know, is a codec used for compressing video. Dr DivX is a tool released by the DivX people that allows easy backup of DVDs using the DivX codec. I bought this software about [...]

the famous “milk brain”

We’re off to pre-natal class this afternoon to practice changing nappies and other mysterious baby-related tasks. We have to take a “soft toy” to practice changing nappies on – apparently last week one of the struggling mums-to-be brought a cute little whale. Hmmm, didn’t really think that one through, did you mate?

happy birthday mate

I’ve been sitting at my keyboard for five minutes trying to think of something to say. Nothing really sums it up eloquently enough. Happy 28th Tim.

home at last

Arrived in Brisbane yesterday morning full of beans after a good flight from Dublin. Qantas… rocks. Skybeds… rock. Showers in Singapore… rock. In other news, we’ve discovered just what a low evaporation point money has when babies are involved. We cruised through over a grand yesterday just getting a stroller, monitor and a nursing chair [...]

Farewell Ireland! I’m presently sitting in the BA lounge at Heathrow after a frantic day. Finished up the training course just before the Friday Feeding Frenzy (the company buys lunch for everybody in the company on Fridays), wolfed down lunch, had a quick brief with the CEO, raced through some admin stuff and dashed out [...]

End of the weekend. It’s been a slow one. Did a little bit of shopping yesterday (Keane and Green Day CDs) and watched Liverpool get beaten by Manchester Utd in the aussie pub near Grafton St. Not actually in the pub, I mean the game was in Liverpool, but I was in the pub. Drinking [...]

All going well, not much to report; we’re getting further under the covers of the software and starting to customise it a little which is good for consolidating understanding of it. Watched the Chelsea vs Man Utd Carling Cup match last night in the Bleeding Horse pub next door to [...]

Tuesday lunchtime. Sitting in the training room on my lunch break. I didn’t bring a coat today and forgot to order lunch from the delivery van, and it’s blowing a wet gale outside, so it’s vending machine S&Vs for lunchy munchy :o Getting under the hood of the Cúram software today – it’s rather cool, [...]

Sunday night. Yesterday was a bit of shopping, pool with Rob (my new colleague also over in Dublin from Oz) and dinner with Rob and my new boss Mike at a very nice little restaurant. I had gravadlax to start and a good pea and spring onion risotto for mains, with 2 bottles of wine [...]

Saturday lunchtime, sitting in a netcafe in central Dublin with my shiny new notebook. Work is going well – I’ve not got a single concern after 3 days. It really does feel like a great company and they’ve done everything right. It looks like after the 2 weeks instructor-led training here, I’ll be doing another [...]
