The blog is now running on my new hosted server. If you notice any wierdness with the server, particularly missing archive entries or wierd dates, let me know! Tim’s site has moved as well and Scott’s will soon be up at scottblog. Thanks, what a great audience.

AWACS attack

I finally got some time to play LOMAC tonight. I’ve been struggling with multiple-bogey engagements but decided to press on until got the hang of it. The mission I chose was called “AWACS attack” – basically, take out an AWACS defended by four MIG-23s with a couple of MIG-29s on ready 5. Just me and [...]

question 4…

Well, Question 4 of my M301 assignment is finished. Only one question to go. It’s taking about 3 hours per question, so I should finish in good time tomorrow. One of the other M301 students popped up online just now, having just got home from SchoolDisco, where he was chatting to this lass instead of [...]

the end of the tunnel

The cheque cleared last night. It was amazing – Cath and I both felt a massive weight lift off our shoulders. It shouldn’t have made any difference, after all it’s not like we can enjoy it as it’s all going on the visa, but it’s such a boost after the psychodrama of the last few [...]

done!

Just finished printing my TMA for S205. Bloody hell, that last question gave me a hard time. I could find 9 of the 10 isomers but the 10th one gave eluded me for 2 hours of head scratching. Got it in the end though! Will take tomorrow night off I think, then get stuck into [...]

more chem

Finished question 2 tonight after racking my brains for three hours to get my head around coordination numbers and crystal lattice packing geometry. Fun. Tomorrow, straight chain isomers of flourobutene and stereochemical relationships. w00t!

university

Halfway through my Chemistry assignment tonight. Have been predicting 3-d shapes of Bismuth Pentachloride 2- ions (it’s octahedral, by the way) and dissecting the lattice structure of silver oxide crystals. The assignment is a lot of fun, I get to play in weblab, which is a program for manipulating 3-d models of molecules, e.g. {{popup [...]

cheque

My cheque arrived today. All that remains now is to see if it clears.

rant

It’s been a while since I’ve had a rant. Here is my response to a new developer who was recycling thoughts from this article in the Open Uni Java conference. Enjoy ;) Sorry gents, I think this is a very one-eyed view. I’m also a bit curious, Peter if you have actually used both Emacs [...]

farewell to the oldboy

Last night I cannibalised my faithful old Linux server for parts. Yes, oldboy is going in the bin. It’s been a real trooper, hosting my websites and CVS repositories for a long time. Not bad for a salvaged Pentium Pro 200! I’ve kept the 3 small SCSI drives, floppy, ISA graphics card, CD-ROM and 256 [...]
