I just discovered the joys of developing software for the P900. I had written a little utility to calculate resistor values (11kb executable jar) from the little coloured bands but then thought “hey, why not run it on my P900?” So I’ve started the port. The hard bit is over, figuring out how to package [...]
Last night we saw Zatoichi at the Electric Cinema on Portabello Road. It was a curious film – let me say first that I did enjoy it, though it didn’t live up to my (admittedly unrealistic) expectations. Beat Takeshi seemed to have been trying every cinematic trick in the book and in some cases it [...]
Brother John has got himself a full-time job at the Commonwealth Bank as a phone jockey. Nice work mate, start saving for that wedding! Uncle Les is visiting us in May and we have booked the “New York Wing” for the duration of his stay. I got my P900 phone yesterday, despite Vodafone telling me [...]
I spent last night doing some solderin’ and fiddlin’ with electronic bits, including wiring up a variable 3-12V transformer to a power socket with two alligator clips. “Why” I hear you say? I’m assembling the first component of my simpit, the communications panel. I figure if I do a little bit here and there, starting [...]
My tutor agreed that I shouldn’t have lost the two disputed marks on my M301 assignment! Bless. That takes me to 99%.
Finally got my uni results from last year’s computing subjects: TT280 grade 2 (UK 2.1, Aust distinction), TT281 and TT282 both grade 3 (UK 2.2, Aust credit). A bit disappointed with 281, but hey a pass is a pass. Considering I left out a large chunk of the TT282 end of course assessment as a [...]
Another cool mission tonight, escorting some Globemaster transports to Sevastopol. Bounced by 4 MiG-25s, of which I got two and my wingman got two, then bagged a Hind on the way home. The landing proved difficult; the weather was foul and the ILS seemed to be playing up a bit. Anyhoo, I landed safely, as [...]
I found out this afternoon that I scored 97% on my software engineering (M301) assignment. Normally I’d be pretty stoked, but on reading the comments, I think I’ve lost two marks because the tutor didn’t fully read or test my code – understandable given the number of assignments he was marking, but I thoroughly tested [...]
Another hugely entertaining mission in LOMAC tonight. This was a mission I created myself to practice dogfights – myself in a single F-15 vs 2 Turkish F5s. vector zero-zero-four for bogey throttle to the wall I climbed out to 16,000 ft and switched on the radar, hoping for an easy BVR kill to lower the [...]
Got my S205 assignment back today, scored 91%. Not bad, but was hoping for better. The major problems were in areas that I appreciated my knowledge was lacking in, so at least there were no surprises. Waiting now for M301…
